Surface Preparation

Epoxy floors can be applied to a vary of substrates. However, we generally recommend applying over a specially prepared concrete surface. The surface preparation is absolutely crucial to ensure proper adhesion to the floor. Without good adhesion, epoxy floors can begin to peel, flake, and rapidly deteriorate over time. At Urethane USA, we ensure the proper techniques are used to achieve the correct surface profile. Only until you have a good surface profile, the pores in the concrete will be opened to allow for excellent adhesion.

Depending on the specific type of epoxy we choose together, Urethane USA tailors the surface preparation work to that product type. Our processes includes grinding, shot blasting or acid etching so that pores in the concrete substrate are opened. Usually, we use diamond-cup wheel machines to grind down the concrete. We typically find it most effective to use these machines to prepare the floors for maximum adhesion. This form of surface preparation is usually aggressive enough to properly open the pores, without damaging the integrity of the concrete substrate. Then we carefully remove all dirt, dust and other particulates.
